"Coulson's Hay' was a 'challenge' painting for an art show I am involved with to raise funds for volunteer firefighters who are members of the Australian Country Fire Authority. Over the past 5 years a group of 10 artists have raised $10,000. The money is donated to a volunteer country fire brigade to buy much needed equipment. We have a challenge where all artists are required to do a painting using the same reference. It is always interesting for the public to see how each one of us interpret things so differently! In 2018 the Art4CFA art show will be held at Trawool (between Seymour and Yea, in the beautiful Trawool Valley).
I live in Victoria, Australia. I have never undertaken any formal art training, but I have enjoyed dabbling and daubing since early childhood. I took up painting fairly seriously in 1985 and dared to start entering my work in shows! I am now totally hooked and if I don’t do something ‘arty’ at least a couple of days a week I get snappy! My work is influenced by a love of the environment and country life. I am attracted to subjects in the first instance by the way light interacts with the surroundings. My subjects are varied ranging from animals, landscapes, figurative, portraiture, life drawing and still life. I find the challenge of painting water particularly enjoyable. I have tried all mediums and pastel has emerged as my favourite....
