I found this beautiful tree during a trip along the Murrumbidgee River. It must be hundreds of years old. It has so much character, and I loved the gnarly lumps and bumps. (This painting won me a major award of 'Best Painting' with a prize of $1,000)
I live in Victoria, Australia. I have never undertaken any formal art training, but I have enjoyed dabbling and daubing since early childhood. I took up painting fairly seriously in 1985 and dared to start entering my work in shows! I am now totally hooked and if I don’t do something ‘arty’ at least a couple of days a week I get snappy! My work is influenced by a love of the environment and country life. I am attracted to subjects in the first instance by the way light interacts with the surroundings. My subjects are varied ranging from animals, landscapes, figurative, portraiture, life drawing and still life. I find the challenge of painting water particularly enjoyable. I have tried all mediums and pastel has emerged as my favourite....

No words! The gum tree is just true to its kind. Great conceptualization!

This is AWESOME Lynda! I am also in love with trees, particularly really old ones with lots of knobs and holes and character. You did a fabulous job creating this! I’m really enjoying looking through your gallery. L/F following
Lynda Robinson replied:
Hello again Michael, and thank you for all your kind words! This spectacular tree stopped me in my tracks, and I spent a good half an hour walking around it and studying every angle. I took a lot of reference photos, so I may paint it again sometime. The light was falling perfectly.
